Abstract
In clinical practice, the routine testing of urine for proteinuria has been the most widely used screening device for urinary tract diseases.
This report is the result of the one-screening test to detect the incidence of proteinuria among the healthy Korean school children.
A total of 2,015 school-children in Daegu area, diagnosed to be healthy by the authors, were tested for proteinuria. Hemacombistix of Ames Company, U.S.A. was used for this 85 children showed proteinuria of 1+ or over, revealing the total incidence of 4.21%.
On sex and age prevalence, it showed higher frequency in female children. It occured in 5.9% of the female and in 2.8% of the male children and revealed increasing incidence of positive proteinuria with increasing age in both sexes, and the highest incidence of 10.67% was shown among the 5th grade female children.
In almost all cases, protein in the urine was ranged between 30 mg~100mg/100ml. Four female children had proteinuria ranging over 300mg/100ml.
There was no correlation between the incidence of proteinuria and the pH of the urine.
